On Monday, we enjoyed a short trip to Awaji Shima. My husband found a hotel offering a last-minute discount – it's off-season after all – so off we went. Our hotel had a fantastic view of the ocean, so we decided to get up early to view the 6:40 am sunrise. Ah, glorious!

Well, it's feast or famine, isn't it! I've sometimes gone for long periods without posting because I have little to offer. However, lately, I've been taking photos like a madwoman, but I have had almost no time to look at them, much less do anything with them! Sigh... Hopefully, things will calm down towards the end of January. Fingers crossed!
In the meantime, here's an orchid from the botanical garden on Awaji Shima. (I've seen it referred to by several different names but it's most commonly known as the Kiseki No Hoshi Greenhouse.) Apparently, the ownership has changed, and some of the displays were quite different from those in the past. Regardless, it was a peaceful oasis of greenery and flowers, and the orchids were especially gorgeous. We visit every chance we get. It's never enough... This information about the botanical garden is somewhat dated, but it's still a good introduction to the location and what it has to offer: setouchifinder.com/en/detail/3710 In February, we visited Awaji Island for a few days. The weather did not cooperate but no worries, we still found plenty of things to do. One highlight was a visit to Kiseki no Hoshi no Syokubutsukan (Miracle Planet Museum of Plants) for their 20th anniversary exhibition of orchids. The exhibition was stunning - a bit overwhelming, in fact. The range of colours, shapes and sizes was almost unbelievable and I think I said WOW in front of just about every arrangement! Below is one of the many photos I took while I was there.
Enjoy! Our Christmas present to ourselves was a few days visiting Awaji Shima, a small island not too far away. Ah, bliss! Several days of Japanese hot springs and delicious food was such a treat! We've both been exceptionally busy these past few months so the chance to relax and unwind was most welcome. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't all that cooperative - mostly cold winds and overcast skies - but still there's something about the open expanse of sky and sea that is good for one's soul. And, well, hot springs certainly help too... Despite several days of heavy clouds and light rain I did manage to take a few photographs. Here are some from our very last day. |
