A dear friend keeps recommending interesting podcasts to follow. The latest one is Your Undivided Attention which explores the "incredible power that technology has over our lives – and how we can use it to catalyze a humane future." This one, their latest podcast, was especially interesting! If you are interested in how language is used, politically or otherwise, then this is for you.

Yes, I am a perfectionist. There have been times in my life when this has worked to my advantage. However, it has also caused a lot of frustration and stress resulting in procrastination and burnout. Needless to say, I've read many articles about perfectionism. However, the paragraph below, from the article Perfectionism: Why and How to Beat It, is one of the best explanations I've read as to why perfectionism can be so destructive. I've been trying to hold things more loosely for several years now, and it has made a difference. If you are a perfectionist, you might find this article helpful as well.
"Usually, in perfectionism the standards are not the problem. The problem is the rigidity around those standards. The rigidity means it’s all or nothing, so we hyper-focus on achieving our impossible goals, only to burn out, neglect other responsibilities, avoid our goals altogether, or constantly feel miserable even when we’re objectively doing well. " Perfectionism: Why and How to Beat It https://every.to/superorganizers/perfectionism-why-and-how-to-beat-it? "Sometimes the best way forward involved removing, streamlining and simplifying things."
This Hidden Brain podcast on doing less was fascinating and very insightful. The description below may make the topic seem quite serious but, in fact, it's very accessible. Marie Kondo even makes an appearance. Enjoy! The Hidden Brain: Do Less https://hidden-brain.simplecast.com/episodes/do-less-IT5Py5s_ I am a huge Lazy Genius fan. Not only do I have Kendra Adachi's first book, The Lazy Genius Way, but I also helped support this series of videos produced to publicize her second book, The Lazy Genius Kitchen. (And, of course, I have that too!) The video series is a hoot which comes as no surprise. Kendra is quirky, funny, non-judgemental, and always there to help you be a genius about the things that matter, and lazy about the things that don't. This is the trailer and you can find the 6 videos in the series on YouTube. (Just click to watch on Youtube and from there you can go to the Lazy Genius YouTube channel.) (By the way, both books hit the New York Times Best Seller List.) Since I live in Japan, I'm quite familiar with how Japaneses clothing is made. However, I know next to nothing about Korean clothing although I have always thought the "hanbok" was very beautiful. This video shows the process from beginning to end and it was fascinating! |
