For many years, I heard from friends about the Adachi Museum of Art in Shimane Prefecture. They all raved about it – especially about the gardens. After many years of dreaming about it, we finally managed to get there, and it did not disappoint! We were there off-season, and so spring had only just begun. Regardless, the gardens were stunning, as were the twentieth-century paintings and artworks on display. I loved the more modern pieces in the annex the most. Some brought me to tears.
The gardens are not particularly old – the museum was founded in 1970 – but since 2003, they has been ranked the best in Japan by the "Journal of Japanese Gardening". I can certainly see why! (My photos hardly do the gardens justice. I highly recommend doing an online search.)
