For many years I heard from friends about the Adachi Museum of Art in Shimane Prefecture. They all raved about it – especially about the gardens. After many years of dreaming about it, we finally managed to get there and it did not disappoint! We were there off season and so spring had only just begun. Regardless, the gardens were stunning as were the twentieth century paintings and artworks on display. I loved the more modern pieces in the annex the most. Some brought me to tears.
The garden is not a particularly old – it was founded in 1970 – but since 2003 it has been ranked the best garden in Japan by the "Journal of Japanese Gardening". I can certainly see why! (My photos hardly do it justice. I highly recommend doing an online search.)
