Yayoi Kusama's Naoshima Pumpkin is much beloved – even by those who have never seen the real thing. And so, it made national news when it was damaged by a typhoon last summer and removed for protection. Sadly, there is no plan to return it to its original location or restore it. Thankfully, similar ones can be found throughout Japan and Tokyo Time Out Magazine has listed the locations for you.
I've been fortunate to see Yayoi Kusama's sculptures when Naoshima and the Matsumoto City Museum of Art. Always delightful! (The photo is from my visit to Naoshima in 2010.) Click on the links to go to the articles:
